ABOUT TERRY WHITE:
Terry returned from Los Angeles to the village of his youth in 1994. Oak Park IL is known for its proximity to Chicago, its Liberal politics, Frank Lloyd Wright homes and Hemingway’s life through high school. Terry left Oak Park in 1978 for college. From 1984 through 1989 he toured the country with his band, Modern Day Saints. The Modern Day Saints were a high energy rock n’ roll band with influences from the Beatles to the Clash and from Dylan to the Talking Heads. Terry wrote songs and was lead guitarist. In October 1989 the band relocated to Los Angeles where they were regulars on the Sunset Strip culminating in their 1992 stint as house band at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go. They recorded with Billy Preston, jammed with Joe Walsh, dined on Thanksgiving dinner with Jane’s Addiction, shared the CBGB stage with Smashing Pumpkins among countless other stories and antics.
The 1994 return to Oak Park led to the formation of the Yellowhammers with two of his Modern Day Saints cohorts, Kevin James and Rob Pierce. The Yellowhammers focused strictly on writing and recording and released four albums on their own label: 1996 Suffer Fools Gladly; 2000 All the People Some of the Time; 2005 Satellite; and 2009 self-titled Yellowhammers (produced with Chicago’s punk/alt country legend Jon Langford).
In 2007 Terry released his first solo album, Our Separate Ways, praised by the Chicago Tribune as “nearly as gorgeous as it is mournful”. The songs range from blues influenced gritty rock n’ roll to delicate ballads. In 2012 he teamed up with Jon Langford again and followed up with Cannonball Fodder, a collection of Americana roots songs performed with the mates in his current band, Cannonball.
The California Rain EP represents a new chapter in Terry's songwriting style, and the production of Jon Smith and Chris Neville have taken his music in new exciting directions. He hopes that you will like it, and follow along with this growth period as it develops.
Terry plays in and around the Chicago area with occasional trips to neighboring states. He has a long time residency at FitzGerald’s nightclub in Berwyn IL where Cannonball plays the last Friday of every month.
