Description
The song ‘Life’ breathes out the emotion of failed relationships and crushed dreams, but in the end, it breathes in peace from the only place it ever existed.
Notes
‘Life’ took 18 years to write. Most songwriters have a guitar case full of half-written songs that usually end up in the trash. For some reason this one didn't. Every few years I’d pull it out and add another line or two from personal experience or about someone close who was going through a hard time. It was a depressing song at first…dreams that fade, expectations that never happen, rejection, loss of a close friend…all the things that each one of us will experience at some point in our lives. That’s when it occurred to me that no matter how long I live, there will always be some element of pain, grief, or disappointment to deal with. I've yet to meet anyone who had a storybook ending to their life. I struggled to find the answer to this. Must we go through our entire life just waiting on the next bad thing to happen? Will depression always be knocking at the door? None of these events in life can be avoided. There isn't a permanent fix for this…life just keeps bringing one more thing.
It was the ending of the song that was the hardest to write. What is the resolve for this…is there hope? That’s when I realized something quite obvious. Every day the sun rises and the sun sets. That is the picture of life. I can’t see clearly in the dark…and that is usually when I am searching for answers…in the darkest part of life.
Hold on my friend…just as God allows darkness to cover you, He will shine on you again and there you will find peace.
