Description
Instrumental jazz/jam. From groovy jazz to tripped out grooves
Notes
Slap is a quartet that has been playing together in various formations since 1997. As an instrumental outfit, Slap's musical goal is to lay down the groove and collectively expolore the musical subconscious of themselves and their listeners.
John Henry Scully is the drummer. He's equally at home laying down the backbeat to a reggae influenced vamp as he is playing a solo in 5/4 time. Scully's ability to shift gears and tempos at will make him a rare gem in the field of percussion.
Mark Miklos is the keyboardist. Greatly influenced by the great McCoy Tyner, Mark's comping skills are understated yet beautiful. His Fender Rhodes playing brings a certain richness and funk not often heard in today's music.
Mike Zubal is the bassist. A musician all his life, Mike lays down the foundation for all of the musical journeys that Slap undertakes. His style is most unique and his playing is highly recognizable for it's angularity and beauty. He is the anchor.
Tom Zubal is the guitarist. Raised on a steady diet of Led Zeppelin and Hendrix, Tom later got jazz training and has since merged the two great forms of American music in his playing. His solid rhythm is balanced by an adventurous improvisational hunger.
