Description

Hip Hop meets Doo Wop on this Dance Version of a 50's classic!

Notes

Back in 1958 The Elegants led by lead singer Vito Picone had a #1 pop single with “Little Star.” It went on to sell over 1 million copies and stayed on the Hot 100 for 19 weeks! Here is an updated version anchored by the Doo Wop harmonies of The Expressions which features Vito’s cousin Jimmy Fallucca! Jimmy got hooked on music after attending rehearsals for The Elegants back in the day! Jimmy is the 1st Tenor and also provides Falsetto. He is joined by Steve Mancino (Baritone), Jeff O’Connor (aka Mr. Bassman), Pat Gelardi (Lead & Tenor) & Carlos Vazquez (Lead, 1rst & 2nd Tenor). This very tight knit group of best friends loves singing and is looking forward to this latest incarnation of “Little Star” reaching a new public and blending the art of tight Doo Wop harmonies with the cutting edge Dance Tracks of today! The Expressions are based in Staten Island, New York. Bringing “Little Star” up to date was truly a labor of love which involved two other performers who would seamlessly meld with the harmonies of the Expressions. The first is Singer. Yes that is his name! Think Madonna, Cher… Singer! One name says it all especially after you hear his voice! He claims to be the “Best That Never Was” but that is all about to change. Singer adds a rich R&B flavored vocal which perfectly matches the light Reggae flavor of the Original production and adds excitement to the Dance Remixes! Singer comes to us from the Boogie Down Brooklyn where he got his start in local talent shows which eventually led him here today.
Closing out the group of performers on this single is Brooklyn’s own SonnyG! He’s the rapper of the group and grew up in Bedford-Stuyvesant a few blocks away from where Jay-Z got his start. His influences are broad and not only include Hip Hop but also Jazz, Pop, and R&B. SonnyG plays drums and piano and first played alongside his father who is a well established musician himself. He began practicing his craft at the age of 16 in a home made studio in his bedroom as he realized hard work and dedication to his craft would be the key to take him where he wanted to go. He got a job doing Promotion with Def Jam’s street team and was involved on projects for artists such as Usher, Jay-Z, Fat J and Kanye West. He also enrolled in a school to learn engineering and the business of music. He brings to the table a strong urban flavor which is a great fit for a tune that started out originally by a bunch of guys singing on a boardwalk in Staten island, New York. The Expressions also thank Tommy Seeco who is charting with this own debut single “You Are” as someone whose help was invaluable in helping The Expressions nail their sound. Todays Hip Hop is the equivalent of yesterdays Doo Wop and when you throw in a Dance Mix by the Klubjumpers (Jason Derulo, Madonna & Mariah Carey) history is about to be made all over again!
