Description
ambitious pop. heard those words in the same sentence lately? sandy takes us back to the glory days of pop, when artists didn't simply try to fill a niche. eclectic to say the least, and successful on every track.
Notes
FEATURING ORIENTE LOPEZ (paul simon, afro-cuban band), DENNIS DIKEN (the smithereens) and LIV CUMMINS....
talk about your eclectic songwriters! (go ahead...) sandy mcknight covers the spectrum from a to about r with this 'in solitary' of his. think 'pet sounds' was ambitious? well, you're right. but so is 'in solitary'. maybe the most exciting piece of pop in the last 30 years.
from the striking track, 'next stop, willoughby' (which is unlike anything you've ever heard), to the rock-latin-jazz flavors of 'stranger on the morning train', to the beatle-esque pop-perfection of 'crazy quilt heart' (check out the oboe!), 'in solitary' takes more chances than any of your so-called alternative artists can ever muster, while scoring bulls-eyes with a scary consistancy.
if you are among the musically disillusioned (and who isn't these days?), 'in solitary' is a must-hear.
