Scott Dennis: Rearranging Furniture
Brooklyn country veteran releases second solo album
NEW YORK—Scott Dennis is a renaissance man. Dennis has an artist’s restless soul. He has an innate musicality. All of this is very clear listening to his second solo album, Rearranging Furniture. The veteran of the Brooklyn country music scene penned all but two of the tunes on the album, played a vast majority of the instruments, sang every note, and produced it at his Cambridge Place Studios.

Rearranging Furniture, the follow-up to 2011’s Songs from the Homestead, has Scott Dennis creating an amalgam of classic American sounds done in a way that puts his many talents on display. From the hard-luck-turned-good tale of “Country Boy Is Going to Rock ’n’ Roll Tonight” to the heart-wrenching despair of “Feelings in the Sand,” the album deftly coasts across the country music spectrum. The title track, “Rearranging Furniture,” sounds like a long-lost gem from the 1970s golden-era of singer-songwriters. “Donde Esta Mi Senorita” spices the album with a south-of-the-border flair.

The album features two cover songs. Dennis becomes one in a long line of musicians—from Wanda Jackson to the Grateful Dead to Linda Ronstadt—to put his, or her, stamp on “Silver Threads and Golden Needles.” His honeyed vocals are on display on the Don Williams classic, “If Hollywood Don’t Need You.”

Dennis had a few talented musicians lend him support on Rearranging Furniture. Glenn Spivack, of Dirt Floor Revue and Haggard Kings, played resophonic guitar on “Cold and Rain” and pedal steel on “Last Thing on My Mind;” Chris Smythe, of Haggard Kings, played electric guitar on “Ada;” and Robert Burman, Dennis’s father-in-law, played piano on “Silver Threads and Golden Needles.”

Rearranging Furniture has full digital distribution and is available at retail outlets including iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon.com.

About Scott Dennis
Scott Dennis is a veteran of the Brooklyn country music scene. He was drummer in the influential Gowanus Corral. When that band flamed out, Dennis assembled Dirt Floor Revue out of its ashes. As the band’s frontman and principle songwriter, Dennis has a well-earned reputation as a raucous and captivating entertainer. In addition to fronting Dirt Floor Revue, Dennis regularly plays solo shows. He released his first solo album, Songs from the Homestead, in 2011 and has performed in various venues in the New York City metro region and abroad in support of the album. Dennis has played his music at a host of New York City’s most reputable honky tonks and bars, including Highline Ballroom, Hill Country, Rodeo Bar, Piano’s, Banjo Jim’s, The National Underground, and Kenny’s Castaways. He also hosts and produces Brooklyn Country Radio, an online series of interviews with Brooklyn-based musicians who have left their mark on the country and roots music landscape.
