Description

Schunge's music is an elcectic blend of Folk and a dozen other styles from Latin and Pop to Orchestral Ballads.

Notes

Schunge is a mystic poet from a working class background, growing up in the industrial town of Widnes, which is situated on the banks of the River Mersey near Liverpool.
After forty unsigned years out of the spotlight Schunge returns with another classic album of personal songs relecting on his life experience.
In 1971, after a spell performing in local folk clubs on Merseyside, Schunge partnered with multi-instrumentalist, Rob Richardson and they moved down to London in search of a recording contract.
The pair were successful in their endeavours and Schunge was signed to infant record company Red Bus Records, who released the album, Ballad Of A Simple Love, and single, Joseph Demanio in 1972 on Regal Zonophone.
Schunge's debut album featured lush string arrangements and contributions from the top session musicians of the time, including guitarist Chris Spedding and bass player Roy Babbington. Schunge and Rob then took the album on the Red Bus UK Tour , which was headlined by another Red Bus act, Geordie. who's singer was Brian Johnson, later of AC DC.
At the time, Ballad Of A Simple Love did not achieve commercial success so Red Bus didn't take it any further. During the intervening years Schunge undertook a number of recording projects without any commercial releases.
Schunge's New Album – Constant Byways
This new album represents the first opportunity since Ballad Of A Simple Love for fans of Schunge's music to get up to date with what he is doing musically.
Although the first album may not have sold in numbers it gathered some lifelong fans. A recent Youtube upload (which has now been taken down) drew a comment along the lines of ' I love this music ...my Dad used to play this album to me as a lullaby in the seventies'. Such is the gentle nature of Schunge, his outlook on life and his music.
This gentleness prevails in his new music and the poetry in Schunge's lyrics is of a depth that benefits an open mind. Unafraid to confront the truth and sum up his life, the songs revist his industrial roots through reminiscences and personal memories as he reflects on lost loves and future dreams.
