Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, music was always being played in my house. My mother was, and still, is a huge Billy Joel fan and I heard him ever time mom would clean the house which was quite often since she had to clean up after me, my younger brother, and two sisters. We grew up in a humble home in Millard with a one parent income, as our father was, and still is, a chemistry teacher. We didn’t have a lot but we always had food on the table and knew how far a dollar could stretch.
In junior high I ran track, but in high school I decided I wanted to work so I could buy a car. I joined a band with some high school friends and we covered everything from Beatles to Elvis. And since I didn’t play an instrument at that time, I sang. I love performing and have used that throughout the early years of my life. DJ’ing dance clubs and Karaoke Bars. I joined a band a few years later, called Scott’s Wallet, where we were doing original music, and even went out of town to do a few shows.
I have always Listened of country music and one of my biggest Influences has to be Alabama, but I caught the writing bug, when I first heard “That Summer” by Garth Brooks on a trip with my mother back from Branson, MO. Never giving up my dream of hearing my song on the radio, I decided I wanted to accompany myself, so my mother bought me a 6-string classic acoustic guitar for Christmas. I had a roommate at the time that showed me how to play a million songs while only knowing three chords. I was in a different world and constantly learning newer and older tunes by the day. One day I decided that I would take my guitar and head out to a few bars outside of town and play on the corner for tips. I went to a bar in Manley, NE called The Getaway and played a few songs, made $44 in tips, and went home and practiced even harder. There is a bar in Springfield, NE called Heron Bay, a small joint directly off the Platt River that let me set up at one end of the bar and let me play my guitar and sing for tips, eventually landing me an every Friday night spot with pay. I was slowly building my playlist so that one day I could play at the World Famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Nashville TN, as I so dreamed about doing. Inspired by high energy country acts like Garth Brooks, Chris Cagle, and Kenny Chesney my dreams of Nashville flourished and seemed closer to coming true. I honed my skills at entertaining and connecting to a crowd with just my voice and a guitar. After making a few trips to get a compass of music city, I made the plunge and relocated to the capital of country music. Soon after moving to town I landed a job at Tootsies playing every Sunday from 6 to 10 and various bars up and down Broadway. I am currently playing a Rippy’s main stage on Saturday nights. I just released my first 15 song album. If you can come catch a show, I guarantee a high energy show full of originals and your favorite covers to make you forget about everyday life.
