Description
It's a record full of powerfully melodic, tightly structured songs that has already spawned two local radio hits, "Sleep Tonight" and "Great Divide".
Notes
With a weight of experience behind them that is surely unique for a band releasing its debut album, Roymackonkey are proud to unveil "Abandonment Issues" on February 9, 2013.
Recorded in Brisbane with producer Stuart Stuart (The Veronicas, Small Mercies) over a two-year period, it's a record full of powerfully melodic, tightly structured songs that has already spawned two local radio hits, "Sleep Tonight" and "Great Divide", and is one of the most anticipated rock releases in the Darwin music scene.
To recap: taking their name from a book found at a rehearsal space, Roymackonkey formed in Darwin in 1997, releasing their debut EP "The Quality of Meat" a year later. Their volcanic, anthemic heavy rock quickly gained support with the locals, and Roy becoming the go-to support band for pretty much every interstate band who came through town.
In the years since then, there's been more recording, lineup changes, a relocation to Melbourne and a re-relocation back home. There's been trauma, knockbacks, disappointments, touring across Australia and Canada, a few members starting families, winning two awards for the song “Sleep Tonight” at the inaugural NT Song Of The Year Awards 2012...and above all else, there's been perseverance, sheer bloody-minded triumph, and rock 'n' roll.
It's all been leading up to the release of this album.
All the elements that make Roymackonkey's sound unique are present and correct across "Abandonment Issues", which in true old-school vinyl album fashion contains 10 tracks: all killer, no filler.
Roymackonkey is: John Coulehan, Darryl Barba, Fletcher Kane Bowman, Brian McLeod.
