Description
Another little treasure with nothing too much and nothing missing - goes by like a pleasant train ride on a nice day. And like a pleasant train ride, it almost goes by too fast, even though there's almost an hour of it.
Notes
Unsolicited Review:
Wow - what to say, Ron? It's a great album, really, another little treasure with nothing too much and nothing missing - goes by like a pleasant train ride on a nice day. And like a pleasant train ride, it almost goes by too fast, even though there's almost an hour of it.
First, let me say that I love the selection and order of the songs, great. You're still the great melody-maker that I used to know, and you do some bloody good singing as well - "What makes you happy" almost blew me out of my trousers!
With "Bec du Coeur", I perfectly agree on how you used the fiddle in the song, just enough to give it that little feel one wants to get from a cajon tune, and the accordion is of course fabulous.
On "Brother in the Sky" I like the serenity of it, which might be even more appropriate, after all, considering what the song's about. It's definitely not an easy piece to render well on a studio recording - be proud of it!
So, there's absolutely nothing that I don't like on the album. However, I would have loved to see a little booklet under the cover, with the song lyrics, some photos maybe, a few friendly words to the audience...
But there's something charming about the simplicity of it, too - and I agree that sometimes, less is more and the other way round. It's just that I've never seen an album of this musical quality with such a humble presentation. And by "humble" I evidently don't mean the cover design itself - great sunflower, really is!
Gimme a call when you get time for it, be fun to have a little chat over all this fine music, and souvenirs of course when hearing you sing. And say hi to the boys of the Di Tomaso Band - tell them they've just made it out alive from the comments of the meanest little music-critique that ever roamed the earth...great band you've got there, Ron!
