Country AUSTRALIA - Northern Territory

Description

Music stars from across the Northern Territory have come together to create an album that addresses the serious issues of road safety. With catchy tunes and memorable beats, their aim is to entertain as well as educate.

Notes

All people across the Northern Territory are affected by road safety in some manner. Long distances are travelled on remote unsealed roads. Many Territorians, their friends or family, become victims of accidents, either as pedestrians or in vehicles. These songs are borne from these experiences.
Music stars representing different languages and communities of the Northern Territory spent the last seven days of March 2014 at Mt Bundy Station creating serious music and messages about road safety.
As Indigenous community champions these musicians are at the forefront of delivery and advocacy for change in their communities - real change to save lives. This is a new and dynamic means of spreading the road safety message amongst Indigenous families and communities.
Reggae Dave - Torres Strait man, is a travelling song man and music educator. His music is known from the Kimberly to Torres Strait and all the roads in between. Dave has driven thousands of miles making people happy with music - now he wants to make people safe.
Ali Mills - Famous face of Larrakia mob, ukulele legend and performer for over thirty years, Ali has Walt-Jim-Bat Matilda-ed her way touring across Australia. With her family, with the Mills sisters, Ali has travelled her music everywhere. With her seat belt ON.
Jeffrey Tjangala Zimran - Best desert guitar south of the Berrimah line. Lead guitarist/singer of Tjintu Desert Band, Jeffrey loves to play music. Fresh from an Australian tour, Jeffrey has seen all that crazy city life and traffic and understands why road safety is important.
Stewart Gaykamangu - is a Yolgnu man who lives in Amata just south of the border. Singer and solo artist, original member of Iwantja band, Stewart is currently recording his first solo album. He writes beautiful melodies and composes on piano and has seen way too many car accidents happen. He wants to make change.
Conrad Rory - Front man for Sandridge Band from Borroloola. Yanyuwa singer songwriter and guitarist, Conrad has been making music for many years. A natural confident leader, he has experienced the dangers of bad driving and is an incredible asset to this project.
This project is managed by Artback NT: Arts Development and Touring and is supported by the NT Government through Department of Transport - Road Safety.
