I'm With You

Robert McClung began his musical career at the tender age of ten. When his grandfather, a professional country singer, gave him his first guitar. By the age of sixteen he was playing in local theater pit orchestras and writing music for children's theater productions. He has written and played for the Portsmouth Academy of Performing arts, the Seacoast Reparatory Company, the Hampton Playhouse and the Portland Stage Company.

After high school. He was bit by the rock and roll bug. Which lead to the release of his first solo album Obstacles Overhead. Which featured members of Thanks To Gravity, Tongue and Groove, Pondering Judd and Percy Hill. The album was blender full of various influences, rock, folk, metal and funk.

In 1993 McClung formed the gothic metal power trio Nine Shades of White. They released two well-received albums and played extensively throughout the New England area. Even opening up for joke rockers Dred Zeppelin at famed Aerosmith rock club Mamma Kin in Boston.

After some time persuing independent projects with a variety of artist including singer Rick Skehan and the Irish folk trio the Makem Brothers, McClung joined pop radio rockers Two Much Trouble. Performing on their 1997 album Frankenstein.

In 1998 he began a four and a half year stint as lead guitarist for the seacoast area's premier rock band 202 (the Band). Playing such high profile gigs as the United Bikers of Maine Festival and the Rochester Opera House, he performed with 202 through the release of their highly successful 2002 album En Route.

Also in 2002. McClung had an instrumental piece entitled Taco Stand on Mars featured on a compilation disk for the non profit organization Sonic Assembly.

Much of 2003 was spent playing rhythm guitar alongside his good friend, virtuoso guitarist, Dan Miller, in the Dan Miller Band. The band won the first round in Boston's famed Beantown Meltdown battle of the bands competition.

He also occasionally performs as a member of the new age, experimental, world music ensemble Collective Consciousness, for which he plays guitar as well as electric violin. The man behind that group, famed jazz guitarist Larry Simon, recently tapped McClung for a show called Infinite Soul a tribute to jazz legend Fela Kuti.

McClung's newest solo release Dust Covered Man is a deeply personal, sometimes dark, acoustic based, singer songwriter album. Twelve original compositions rest alongside cover versions of the Young bloods' Darkness Darkness and Pink Floyd's Goodbye Blue Sky.

Along with his brooding baritone to primal scream vocals, McClung plays guitar, violin, bass and bohran on the album. He is joined by Truffle mandolinist Ned Chase, Collective Consciousness flutist Cynthia Chatis, blues harmonica guru Hatrack Gallagher, former 202 alumni Tom Doyle (providing angelic vocal harmonies), as well as the multi instrumental talents of Producer Extraordinaire Mac Ritchey.

Amongst all this, McClung also finds the time to write instrumental music for TV and films. He also works full time as a music teacher.
