Description

Notes

(english translation will follow)

Solen Synthonique

Synthétique. Symphonique.

*****

Solen Synthonique

Synthetic. Symphonic.
Digital technology is used to express the magnitude and shades of a large orchestra. The difference is noticeable as part of the experience.

The music comes from the instrumental work of Solen, a progressive rock band that existed in a marginal environment between 1978 and 1981 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was wandering since its creation, in limbo of lost melodies as no decent recording remained to allow for appreciation of its richness.

The parts were assembled, as it is often the case in rock bands, by the combined efforts of all it's members :

Richard Blais - keyboards
Benoît Chassé - drums and percussions
Daniel Desmarais - guitars
Nicolas Reeves - electric bass

Solen is not playing here but their music is present in an alternative form, unexpected. A different experience from a creative time.

Richard Blais

Despite a path mainly associated to rock music, Richard Blais was always close to symphonic music.

Trained at Montreal's Vincent d'Indy school of music at the end of the 70's, he always kept a strong taste for exuberant and complex orchestration. Influenced by the romantic movement of the XIX century and the emergence of modernism with the arrival of the XX century, he writes, arranges and assembles his music using digital sampling technology.

After a critical passage with the band Solen in 1978, he worked with several stage bands before participating in the writing of the « Cité Promise » album from Bleu Néon in 1985. A few years later, in 1994, he founded the band Pangloss with which he endorsed the album « Joe Barr » in 2002. When Pangloss fell asleep in 2010, he decided to go back to the origins of his inspiration and prepared the bases of what would become the « Solen Synthonique » project.

The upcoming years will determine the result of this musical journey that could continue on the symphonic path or go back to the more primitive sound of rock music. The inspiration of the moment will be the only deciding factor...
