Renee is a Zombie is a one woman anti-folk loop performance of accordion, classical guitar, flute, glockenspiel, two-piece drum kit, beats, and triple chocolate cake layers of harmonies. This album is the perfect blend of the live loop arrangements and a recorded capture of something deep, dark and lovely.
Renee began touring out of Pensacola, Florida in 2008 as Renee Arozqueta and made the switch to Renee is a Zombie in 2011, since no one could pronounce or spell Arozqueta. "u are the u" has been 5 years in the making, it shines as an evolution from the intimate songwriter with some overdubs to a harmonic symphony of sounds and pretty little moments. One syllable entities become personified until they are almost, but not quite, "friends," listen carefully for the Dark, Cold, Rain, Winter, North, West, the Desert and an existential sugar cube.
Renee is the owner and manager of Zombies and Lizards Records, currently operating out of Knoxville, TN and touring multiple artists throughout the southeast including Silo, a recent duet project of Renee Arozqueta and Jennifer Jeffers. Silo was born of the Louisiana Delta when Renee and Jenn were public school teachers 2012-2014. (Renee taught 3rd grade and has since retired to pursue her record label and promote artists and the making of art.)
In addition to music, Renee is also an artist of fabric, watercolor and above all, the emotionalism of ourselves through the expressions of her zombie cartoons and zines.
