Description

A mix of ambient chill, experimental, and emotionally charged songs, both instrumental and lyrical, with a strong organic content, imbued with cinematic compositional elements

Notes

My previous albums have largely revolved around experimental music, with strong cinematic and electronic elements. Ephemeral was a move towards more organic compositions, largely based on acoustic and electric guitars. Admittedly, I didn't play all of the instrumental parts and used a combination of free loops and sampler instruments, but the creative composition is probably the most noteworthy characteristic. The album cover is clearly sentimental, reflecting the recent loss of our dog, Rexie, who was a beloved family member. One song on Disk 2, 'Baby Boy', is about my wife's grief, but this is balanced by the more uplifting 'Dance in the Rain' that follows.

The first disk contains purely instrumental pieces. The lead-off song, titled 'Guitarra Sinfonia', is a complex 7-part collage of guitars and synthesizers intended to be symphonic in nature and containing Spanish guitar elements (hence, the song title). The other instrumentals on Disk 1 are similarly unusual, some with more ethereal content, some with a harder edge, and some with a humorous flavor. Disk 2 contains 12 songs with lyrical/vocal content. The subject matter tends to be emotional, as I thought would be fitting for this album. I don't adhere to any particular genre in my music making, but rather aspire towards unusual compositions with strong emotional content. I am easily bored by repetition of musical phrases, and you will not find that in my music. Such song building requires a greater effort, and this double album was a year and half in the making. Each disk is completely full (approximately 75 minutes each). Ephemeral was obviously not aimed at commercial success (hence, the reasonable price for two and half hours of music), but it is imbued with lots of TLC. Although it's my 5th album, I am most excited about this one, and I hope you will derive much listening pleasure.
