Notes

This is my first CD of original material which builds upon my long term relationship with folk, blues and country music. The songs are an amalgam of everything that I have absorbed musically over the years. Broken Bottle Blues is a song about how true love can lift you above your circumstances. I'd Rather Be A Musician is a song about the choices that we make in life and how, sometimes, we don't always end up doing what we want in life. Claire's Lullaby is dedicated to my lovely daughter, Claire, who is a great joy in my life, and contains fragments of memories of her childhood. Trail of Tears is about the horrible wrong inflicted by the US government on the Cherokee Tribe. Deliver Me is a prayer for protection against the evils that plague us. Mr. Contradiction is about my frustration over US politics, politicians and government. Where Are You Now? is a very sad song about the emotional distance that can separate us (and is not autobiographical!). Ecology Blues is about my frustration with the American lifestyle and its degradation of the environment, and how few sacrifices we are prepared to make to save it. Java is a song that I used to sing to Claire, about the precious coffee that enabled me to wake up enough to care for her. Dark Tower is a review for my fans of the series of science fantasy books that entertained me for years set to music. No Way To Stop Blues is the mandatory train song required of every folk, blues, country CD. Remember Me is my attempt to create a mantra for my loved ones after I am long gone. Aunt Jane's Fiddle is about my dear, departed, cheerful, fiddle-playing Aunt, who I wish everyone could have known.
