Description

Call it Alt-Pop-Rock, call it Modern Classic Rock, call it Urbanized Middle-America Rock or call it Chicago Rock. Just as long as you love it, need it, want it and enjoy it.

Notes

Naked Mile is the by-product of the musical influences of four average American guys, but is delivered in a fresh, accessible way. Hailing from Chicago and calling themselves an alt-pop-rock band, Naked Mile has created a distinctive style that has been called many different things by many different people. A few labels that have actually stuck are "Alternative Classic Rock," "Urbanized Middle-America Rock," "Chicago Rock," and "Really Different, but Really Catchy Rock". The bottom line is that Naked Mile sounds a little different to everyone, so just take a listen, and decide for yourself.

With the release of their debut recording in the spring of 2003 entitled "No Less My Life," Naked Mile is quickly becoming one of Chicago's most talked-about bands. A self-produced and self-released effort, "No Less My Life" has already garnered significant attention around Chicago and the Midwest, and has even managed to find new fans as far away as Europe. As a fan from Croatia said, "Your songs are really great, web site too! Really proffesional!! " Even locally, Naked Mile is gaining devoted fans with their music. As "Sara O." said in an e-mail to the band recently, "i downloaded the 3 songs that u have on the site- and i LOVE all 3 of them...especially "Clark & Grace"!! awesome awesome song!!!... id do anything to get ahold of one of your cds!" Our fan's reaction pretty much speak for themselves.

Naked Mile was originally conceived in the minds of singer Jasen Schrock and bassist Chris Gorcik, but has since taken on a life of it's own. Formed in the spring of 2001, the band set out to create music that was musically complex and interesting, while retaining an accessibility and mass appeal. With three of the four members being accomplished songwriters, there was no shortage of original music, and no shortage of variety within the framework of the band.

So who are the guys in Naked Mile? Singer, Jasen Schrock, is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and originally moved to Chicago to pursue a career in acting. After a three year stint as the singer for the popular Chicago jump-swing band, The Blues Swingers, Jasen switched gears and recorded two albums with the synth-pop band, The Mystechs. Switching gears once again, Jasen teamed up with Chris Gorcik, whom he met while performing with The Blues Swingers, and started Naked Mile.

Bassist Chris Gorcik, hailing from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, received a degree in music at Northern Illinois University, and went on to a successful career in the music business. Having performed live with world-renowned artists such as Quincy Jones, Phil Collins and David Sanborn at the Montreaux Jazz festival, Chris went on to tour with the legendary swing band, The Glenn Miller Orchestra. After arriving back home in Chicago, Chris performed with a number of local Chicago acts including The Blues Swingers, Mr. Myers and The Rhythm Rockets, and now is focused on bringing Naked Mile to the masses.

Guitarist Dustin (Dusty) Ward came to Chicago from Raleigh, North Carolina in the summer of 2000 to pursue his dream of music. After soaking up the musical traditions of the south-east from his father, also a guitarist, Dusty decided to bring his highly stylized playing to Naked Mile after answering a simple ad in the paper. With musical influences ranging from Zeppelin to Bluegrass, Dusty is as original as original gets.

Drummer Brian Abraham took over the drum spot from original member, Jim Barclay, in the fall of 2002, and has managed to not only fit right in to the Naked Mile vision, but to also infuse his own brand of borderline insanity to the fray. Growing up in suburban Schaumburg, Illinois, Brian came to the band as a longtime friend of bassist Chris. With his love for fusion, avant-garde jazz and electronica styles such as ambient and drum & bass, Brian is set to take Naked Mile to new heights of originality.

This is just the beginning for Naked Mile, both in words, and in music. With boundless creativity and originality, a solid and experienced line up, their youthful energy and ambition, and above all, their love for the music they make, Naked Mile is ready to take on the world. Wanna come along for the ride?
