A compliation of original songs with Bible-centered lyrics in styles from folk to reggae to acoustic rock to funk, written by Dave Martin, performed live at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church.

Inspiration is a funny thing - you never know when it will strike. For Dave Martin, the inspiration for this music was found in dreams, in converstaions, in loss, and in The Word. In this collection of songs, you will find the results of that inspiration - songs that encompass a variety of styles and feelings, with lyrics you'll want to read and understand.

The Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church Band has been together for many years, performing songs in a variety of styles, from jazz to classical, folk to funk. Now, they have begun to premiere original songs each month as part of the regular worship service. Each song in this collection was written to fit a particular liturgy or season and the unique instrumentation of the group. The extraordinary musicians include master pianist Doug Scott, Motown veteran cellist Michael Karoub, jack-of-all-trades bassist Godfrey Porter, and two music educators, band director Jason Cassell on drums, and choral conductor Dave Martin on vocals and guitars.

"The Task" is a song of prayer and praise: "Set my hands and my heart to your task," and "Remind me that the task is love."

"Let It Be (Mary's Song)" is a song observing the virgin Mary as she holds her child as only a mother can. Any parent will identify with the lyrics as she cradles and sings to her son.

"Eclipse" paints a dramatic picture of the crucifixion darkness described in Matthew 27:45. "I choose to trust the dark is just a shadow of the Son."

"Inside The Music" is a joyous setting of Psalm 100 to a reggae song written by Godfrey Porter.

"Jesus Party" started in a dream - and became the story of the author's acceptance of Christ. It's a tale of salvation set to a funky roadhouse honky-tonk tune with an undeniably fun beat.

"Father's Day" takes feelings every parent can understand and applies them to our Father. "How can you be so much like me and be yourself in so many ways?"

"So Far Away (Unbroken Bone)" is about two things: the story of a soldier standing guard outside the tomb of Christ on the second day after his burial, and a personal story of the author losing his father, sitting outside the hospital room where he would take his last breath.

"Arise and Awake" is an Easter anthem celebrating the resurrection and our salvation.

We hope you'll find these songs to be a source of inspiration as you live to serve your task.
