Description
This guy has a warm, unique and powerful voice. He sounds like a blend of Elvis Presley, Waylon Jennings and Roy Orbison. His lyrics and melodies are obviously coming from a mending heart. Most are beautiful and touching. A couple are witty and fun...
Notes
I'm the guy you heard singing at all the local pubs and private parties and caused you to ask, "I wonder why he didn't make it?" Of course if that was me you heard, it was quite awhile ago. Back then, the internet was just getting a foothold, and I was raising my family and resting my singing career dreams. Today, the internet is up and running wild, my family is raised, and I'm back in the dream-chasing business.
My renewed chase started a couple of years ago at the prime-time age of 60. I went to Nashville and recorded four of my favorite original songs. The songs were produced by Neal James. To this day, I don't know if Neal was a legitimate producer, or just another shark swimming the Nashville seas. He charged me a lot of money, and I knew getting my investment back was more than a long shot, but I didn't care. I had been putting off my dream long enough, and I didn't want to look back years later when my voice was gone, along with who knows what else, and wonder what might have happened. Long shot, or not, I had spent the last fifty years wondering, and that was enough.
So, I went to Nashville and gave Neal my money. Needless to say, I did not become an overnight sensation, and my songs did not saturate the radio airwaves... but I don't care. The experience opened the door which led me to the second most fulfilling and enjoyable chapter in my life--writing and producing my own songs. First place in the fulfillment field will always be raising my two sons, and finding a way to somehow stay married to their beautiful mother for 37 years.
Now about my CD, "Don't Let Go:" I wish I could say something that would get you to take the time to listen to a few of my songs. What's my song style, and who do I sound like? Kind of like Elvis, kind of like Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, David Bowie, Bob Seger, Gordon Lightfoot, Don Williams, Jim Reeves, Englebert Humperdink and BJ Thomas. Notice most of these artist are old guys....so am I.
My songs have a 60's, big chorus feel to them. I don't profess to be a Dave Mathews, or Toby Keith, or anything remotely close to a Justin Beiber. I don't try to sound like anybody but myself, and I think I do a pretty good job of doing just that. Want a five word description of my voice and style. A friend of mine just said it the other day, "It's like listening to chocolate." There you go. I like the sound of that.
My songs have been criticized for being too personal, and too sad. I think that is a fair criticism. Most of these songs stem from a fairly recent "challenging" chapter in my life. I almost feel guilty for confessing that my personal challenge had nothing to do with alcohol, or drug addiction, which seems to be the romanticized failing of most singers. My problems centered around the more mundane. I lost a fifteen-year-old business I had started from scratch. It's demise and the financial hardships that followed tore apart my ego and my marriage.
Fortunately, my wife and I eventually weathered the storm , as did my armored ego.
Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit about me and my music. I hope you will take a couple seconds more and give my songs a listen, and maybe even buy one or two. It would go a long way toward convincing me I am not singing to just myself, or the empty wilderness.
Anyway, thank you again, best regards, and I hope you will tell your friends about me.
All is well...
