Description

Sunshine melodies, heartbreaking melancholy and big, loud, guitar pop songs.

Notes

Marvellous Minx is the album where all the most wonderful elements of MINX come together in a delicious, sticky, spiky, bouncy ball of noise.
Without a hint of filler, listeners are taken on a 14-track tour of melody, harmony, shouty bits, noisy bashy bits and hooky trumpety bits.
Big nods are made to classic British pop bands such as Madness, XTC, Kinks and the Damned as Marvellous Minx speeds and swerves through smiley, sunshiney-singalongs like Happiest Day, Vanish and London to Brighton, then purrs quietly through the melancholic Here On The Grass In The Rain, A Little Loving and Box This Feeling, before roaring triumphantly past the winner's flag with Blunderbuss and Ballet Shoes and Brilliantine.
The line-up of Brian, Mike, Bruce, Shawn and Ali originally released the album in 2001, with production duties shared with Howie Sato of Nicotine. The album also features two songs mixed by Tim Smith of Cardiacs.
The band won many converts when they played live to promote the CD, as the unforgettable trumpet hooks and moves of Shawn blended with Ali's melodic piano, organ and harpsichord parts, all adding big splashes of mood and colour to the guitar-bass-drums noise provided by Brian, Mike and Bruce.
All in all, a perfect pop album.

"Cracking album - Blunderbuss & Here on the Grass in the Rain both all-time favourites... and that's not the half of it." - MP, London
