Description

Packed with Guitar Driven Songs about Life, this album is a blend of rock, blues, country, and pop. More like a garage band than a slick studio production, this is a collection of guitar driven music that is Real, Raw, and Relevant

Notes

Guitar Driven Songs about Life.... That could easily be the title of this solo effort by Matt Mylroie. With a focus on being REAL, RAW, and RELEVANT, Matt has served up a dozen songs that wind down a musical path of rock, blues, country, and pop. Fusing these styles together in a sound that is both Vintage and Modern at the same time, Matt has created music with a style and message that appeals to a multi-generational audience. Lyrically, these songs speak of hard work, integrity, hope, chasing your dreams, staying true to your roots, overcoming the odds, and of course... love of God, Family, Country, and Music!

This album came together as a result of reviving a number of very old recordings made during Matt's college years. These demo's and unfinished records had been sitting for many years gathering dust, always in the back of Matt's mind. Finally, in 2011 Matt focused his energy on this large volume of demos, old recordings, and unfinished works - sorting through the roughly 30 songs in order to focus on selecting those that most "needed" to be finished in order to close out this past chapter in his life, and added in a couple of somewhat newer songs as well.

Matt wrote and recorded all of the songs, and plays virtually all of the instruments on each track, but does have several guest artists; Bretton Tanner joins on drums for 2 songs, Bill Dent contributed several guitar and bass tracks, and Jared Doyle is featured on one guitar solo. A special treat was having one of his daughters play drums on Funk n' Groovin',and have another daughter sing the backing vocals on Last Night. Matt took great care to preserve the rough and raw "garage band" sound found in so many of the old recordings, while also trying to ensure that additional parts he recorded to complete the songs were reflective of the type of raw talent and performance that was typical of his college days/garage band time period.

From the more pop-polished ballad "Last Night" to the energetic fusion of bluegrass, country, and rock of "Guitar Man", to the smoking blues and rock groove of "Blues Man", Matt has managed to successfully offer an entertaining variety of music while exploring his roots, and more importantly, he has finally closed out an important chapter of his life and is looking forward to moving on to new projects.
