Description
Cutting edge songs of love and despair in Steeltown, Canada together with thoughts of salvation on the Camino Santiago. For the follow up release in 2015 see: "Walkin' The Way of St. James by Steeltown Pilgrim
Notes
Matthew Mutch was born in Hamilton, Ontario - steel capital of Canada-and better known as Steeltown. “Steeltown Pilgrim”, his second cd release, speaks of Matthew’s heartbreak, alienation, broken dreams and his personal quest for truth and salvation.
The Spanish influenced “Peregrina” provides a fine opening as it exposes both the wide breadth of his endless emotional turmoil and, as well, his keen interest in the Camino de Santiago.
Love songs vary from the sad romances of “This Old Heart” and “Can‘t Stop These Tears”, to the lyrical romance and fantastic journey of “On the Peninsula”.
No punches are pulled in “Steeltown Pilgrim“ : the ripping candor of “Dear Friend” is perhaps the best example of Matthew’s honest, in-your-face style. The strong lyrics can remain compassionate as well, as heard in “Black Rose”, the sad and catchy song he penned for a high school sweetheart.
As was the case with his first cd, “Enter”. Matthew has also included a Canadian arctic history song with “John Torrington”, another fantasy and journey, this time relating to John Franklin’s last arctic voyage.
A strong collection of new songs from a very promising and unique artist.
“Cohen meets Dylan meets Cash with more attitude”
