A sonic landscape of funk and rock
Notes
Marvin Glover has traveled all his life, collecting a wide range of musical styles along the way. Influenced early by his mother, a gospel singer from Selma Alabama, Marvin began singing in the church choir and soon learned how to play drums, flute and piano before discovering the guitar and bass in his early twenties. Glover attended college before entering the flight industry, where on the first day of orientation, he met drummer Dale Carlson and formed a band. Moving from Houston, to Hawaii, back to the mainland, Carlson and Glover drafted various airline employees over the years to play in their groups, The Attendants, Face the News and The Flight Club. After moving into the legal profession, Marvin felt the urge to play again and in early 2001 summoned several former bandmates to Austin Texas, where he recorded his first solo record, One. Seattle producer/musician Bruno Modolo, Jr., came onboard and the band recorded the songs in two intense sessions, resulting in a slick sounding CD - the first product from his own label, Starving Dog Records. Glover released a four-song EP, Holiday Light, in the winter of 2002 and immediately began writing for his second solo release. Recorded in Seattle over the calendar year of 2004, Muse showcases the creative talents of Glover, as singer, arranger and producer with his style of soulful funk and groove rock that attracts listeners of all musical tastes and generations. "All the songs on Muse are written about my experiences, and the Muses that guided me through the process," Glover explains, "I aim to be honest with my writing. I want to present an honest positive vibe."
