Notes

TIME TO FLY (January 2014)

“TIME TO FLY” is my latest CD which follows on from 2010’s CD “CLOSE TO EDEN”. It’s CD number seven in a line featuring rock, funk, blues and latin guitar instrumentals. It contains fifteen original compositions in the same vein as Joe Satriani, Dave Gilmour, Larry Carlton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Matt Schofield, Peter White and Carlos Santana.
The CD features Ibanez, Fender, Yamaha and Musicman acoustic / electric / bass guitars with a bit of help from Korg, Yamaha, Line 6 and Boss outboard products.

1) RIDE THE TIDE (04.22)
This first track is in the key of A minor and has a b.p.m of 122. It was inspired by Larry Carlton and Guthrie Govan. The rhythm guitar is my older Stratocaster and the lead guitar is my Ibanez S1520. The track features some slapping on the Musicman bass.

2) SHAME THE DEVIL (05.35)
Track in E minor written in Winter 2011. Track based on a Stevie Ray Vaughan feel.

3) MONKEY BUSINESS (04.50)
Some funky monkey business going on here. I wrote this track many years ago but dusted it off for this CD and added more guitar and some funky bass.

4) TIME TO FLY (06.18)
This tune was inspired by seeing Joe Satriani in 2012. It was completed just after my Dads funeral in October 2012 hence the title.

5) EDEN’S CURSE (06.35)
A track written and recorded for my last CD “ Close To Eden”. I added some more guitar and keyboards for this CD.

6) TROUBLE CAME CALLING (05.08)
A 24 bar blues in the key of E minor. The verse melody was a nod towards Jonny A. The only electric guitar I used on this one was my American deluxe Stratocaster.

7) ROLL THE DICE (05.10)
This track has been played live a few times with the band “Eclipse”. It features John from the band on sax.

8) SEVEN SINS (05.22)
Written after watching Steve Vai on the “Story of Light” tour.

9) WALK IN HIS SHOES (05.15)
A song written for my dad who passed away in 2012.

10) COLD BLACK HEART (05.50)
Inspired by Matt Schofield. Written as a full song this is the instrumental version. The track also features John from “Eclipse” on sax.

11) LIFE IS GOOD (06.29)
This track has a Kenny Wayne Shepherd style riff with a funky feel. This is another track featuring some slapping on the Musicman.

12) PARADISE FOUND (06.01)
Originally written as a ballad but changed during the recording process to an up tempo happy sounding tune.

13) WATCH YOUR STEP (03.58)
This is a 16 bar blues shuffle in E. It’s got a definite Stevie Ray Vaughan feel. The only guitar used throughout is the American Deluxe Stratocaster.

14) A PERFECT SPELL (04.39)
This track was also recorded for my last CD. The guitars were updated for this version.

15) ABOVE THE CLOUDS (02.30)
This track is in 6/8 rather than my usual 4/4. The final part of this track is used as part of a song in “Eclipse's” live set.
