Description
Groove-driven funky r&b, jazz standards with a twist, jazz fusion with a rock edge, and original jazz
Notes
Bassist Mark Snyder has assembled some of the Boston area's finest players to form this exciting quartet. "Men Grooving", the group's second CD, features wonderfully diverse original compositions by Mark, sax player Jim Repa, and guitarist Andy Solberg. The CD covers territory that ranges freely through R&B inflected grooves, funk and fusion, straight ahead swing, free jazz, rock, and Latin styles. The thread that ties it all together is the group's exceptional sense of groove, and strong improvisational skills, both individually and as a group.
The quartet recently completed a residency as visitng scholars at The Thacher School, in Ojai, California.
A fixture on the Boston music scene since 1976, Mark's sideman credits include work with The Gary Burton Quartet, Tiger Okoshi, Bob Moses, Phil Grenadier, Steve Hunt, and Mike Metheny, as well as rock and R&B acts The Coasters, Brian Hiland, Tommy Rowe, Gary "U.S." Bonds, and the Marvelettes. He has performed all over the U.S. and much of Europe, and has been featured as a player and composer on numerous recordings. He is a prolific composer with a degree in Composition from Berklee College of Music.
Mark was a longtime member of ICTUS, the influential Jazz/Fusion group of the 1970's and 80's, which performed with such artists as Darius Brubeck, Donald Byrd, and Bill Frisell.
