rootsy-contemporary-folk-rock-influenced-singer-songwriter with a hopeful spiritual edge

Melanie Bomar is a rootsy-contemporary-folk-rock-influenced-singer-songwriter who grew up in Virginia, where she began playing piano and drums at a young age. Moving to Nashville in her college years she picked up the guitar before relocating to Los Angeles, where her voice has been heard on various TV shows including "Extra!" and “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” She has composed music for commercials and television including "Ellen," "TMZ," “Tyra,” and "Celebrity Justice.”

In 2002 judges including Gillian Welch and Jim Lauderdale awarded Melanie second place in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at the Merlefest Roots Music Festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina for her song “Room Enough to Love.” That same year she and Scott B. Bomar released a duo album called “Maladies of Love” which Village Records called a “heady brew of folk, country and some pop with a lyrical emphasis…edgy with some great hooks.”

Additionally, Melanie has been honored by the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Jewel’s Soul City Music Competition, and has received the ASCAP Plus award for writers whose works have “a unique prestige value.” In 2004 she joined The Buzzards, featuring legendary guitarist Will Ray, before starting work on her debut solo release, “Neither Slave Nor Free” with co-producers Marty Rifkin (Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Fastball, Shawn Mullins, Elton John) and Rex Paul Schnelle (Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Jon Bon Jovi).
