Description
Lot's of folks claim to be eclectic or undefinable, this record delivers on that promise!
Notes
The Dreamboats name was born on the day the stars and planets aligned and the musicians I “dreamt” of working with agreed to play and record with me.
Alfredo Rivero was the 1st to come aboard, he is brilliant human, a musician of great virtuosity, depth and a dear friend and brother!
Then Jeremy Powell whose talent and creativity know no bounds, gifted himself into my life and climbed aboard. Jeremy is one of the best on the planet and the “Dreamiest” of the Dreamboats.
Joe “El Wappo” Bencomo who dedication to music is 2nd to none, his serious passion and “ownership” of our music was and is inspiring. We grew up in the barrio together, share the same gene pool. Our ears and hearts heard the “Tampa Sound” from the originators, the sound lives in us!
Shankh “ Shankenstein” Lahiri taught us a new musical vocabulary and brought an undeniably unique spice to our creations. He’s my brother and co-conspirator in other musical projects (WAHH!) as well.
I LOVE these guys, they gave their precious time and amazing talents selflessly to this project. The name “Dreamboats” was originally somewhat tongue and cheek, poking fun at the bands “looks or lack of”…. in hindsight it really is a dream come true. Finally George “Dr. Lola” Harris, this record would not exist without him. There are no words that can amply express the dedication, generosity and focus he gave to this recording. In the face of severe life threating adversity, he persevered. In fact many times his concentration on the record was greater than mine! Dr. Lola is my hero.
Song Notes 1. Mosquito: An Ode to my lifelong friend/brother Boy and our childhood antics.
2. Heaven: Oh the joys of parenthood!
3. Stupid; After my divorce I penned lots of pissed off songs, Stupid was a cathartic turning point, I could laugh once again.
4. WesTampa: A tarantella dedicated to the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of “Old Tampa” and Boza Funeral Home.
5. La Austurianin: A biographical song about my maternal Abuelita, Aurora. She hailed from the Principality of Asturias, España
6. Bomb: Stream of conscience prose that spewed forth after 9/11, the words sat for a while before the music came.
7. Pinky’s Lil Whiskers: A warm and “fuzzy” lust song.
8. Don’t: Our tip of the hat to 60’s Psychedelia, An anti- karma message dipped in an acid batter, then fried.
9. Fishy: A sugary rant about, crescent moons, swastikas & chrome adhesive fish signs.
10. I’m not Mad: Our homage to Salvador Dali, Peter Tush made me do it!
