Description
Parts of a psychedelic audio collage/documentary series about a group of 20-somethings in Silicon Valley during the (early) 1990s who used and hacked telephone voice mail systems for the purpose of social networking and entertainment.
Notes
Narrated by the electronic 'greek chorus' 'Voicejail Central' -- various clips from the series in which we hear dreams abounding in the voicejail, and the party line, as Mr. 1:15 (Al Newport) indulges his social anxiety and gets drawn into drinking. Meanwhile, Ronald Redball and The Bay Area Represenative (BAR) meet Disco Woman at Denny's restaurant. In the end, Mr. 1:15 joins Ronald and Phineas for a day at the Great America amusement park.
"...like a radio bubble--a jabber of dislocated, unidentified voices bounced off the ionosphere... There are one-way conversations that make Dennis Hopper sound like Noam Chomsky, usually introduced by the robot voice chiming, "You may start your message now"... Thanks Voicejail, we needed that!" -- Richard von Busack (San Jose Metro, review of Midnight Voicejail)
"This is Jackson Pollack in a Thomas Kinkade world. It can be boring, irritating, a collage of nonsense that is hard to listen to as it is to turn off. But it's also a voyeur's heaven, a highly uncensored soap opera of the airwaves. a rambling stream-of-consciousness take on art imitating life. Or is it life imitating art?... I love it". -- Brad Kava (San Jose Mercury News - review about Midnight Voicejail)
"Tremendous.. just fabulous" -- George Carlin (about The National Cynical Network)
