Notes
Margaret Maria’s much anticipated second album ‘Enchanten Rising’ takes the listener on a journey into the heart and mind of the artist herself. An incredible sonic experience, full of emotion and cinematic colours, and breadth of phrase and line; the triple threat – composer, performer and producer – creates stunning results.
“This album is dedicated to anyone who has had the courage to give up so much in pursuit of their dreams. From the highs and lows, the despair and the fear, to the rising hope, and the incredible moments of creativity, unsurpassed beauty and divine inspiration that can only come from following your inner heart and believing that everything will work out in the end.”
‘When I thought of creating this album, my theme became my own personal theme. In the same was as an athlete trains for the Olympics, or the dancer for the performance of their life-time, I lived and breathed the journey of the artist, striving for that pinnacle. My own journey was more like giving birth to this album…it was awesome and incredible as well as desolate and dark at times. This music moved me like no other thing has. Each piece was like a world unto itself and it would suck me in and wring me dry, before finally releasing me. Many sleepless nights, with the music circling inside my brain and my whole being vibrating from the spirit of each piece; this is ‘Enchanten Rising’.’
‘In my first album ‘Enchanten’ (Grammy Entry Nomination New Age Category 2013), I was really the excavator, on a mission to discover what I could do with my music, with my cello, with the production tools at my disposal. It was a steep learning curve on the technical side, as I had never worked with Cubase before and recording my own cello. My new album, ‘Enchanten Rising’ is the finding of my voice, the strength that I feel I have been able to harness and the creativity that has come from within, that inspired me along my journey. My highest regards and respect goes out to all creators, who live in this world every day and to whom I dedicate this album to.’
Also available: Margaret Maria’s debut album ‘Enchanten’ (Grammy Entry Nod 2013 New Age Genre)
‘superb cellist…’ Ottawa Citizen
‘The cello is a lovely dynamic instrument but when given the opportunity to debut new pieces skillfully performed by a true master of the instrument, it soars to new heights.’
Enchanten Rising perfectly reaches the balance of adhering to musical tenets while simultaneously breaking the rules. Maria crunches sounds from her cello reminiscent of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. She expertly pushes the cello to its full range and beyond. This hard-hitting musical style has a cinematic quality similar to Howard Shore’s syncopated fantasy soundtracks.
‘The highlight of the album is the beautiful “Desolates”. Maria stepped out of the performing spotlight to focus on her composition and to share her love of music with others through teaching. These labors of love are reflected in her music and “Desolates” is the epitome of her journey thus far. It is a gorgeous outpouring of the heart and a mirror into her soul.'
