Our Story
Black Sky Tribe is a groove-oriented melodic hard-rock band from Nashville TN. The band's debut album, "Goodbye Blue Sky" is scheduled for a December 2015 release. Veterans of the rock scene in music city, the band's members have known each other for many years.
Singer Michael Ashley (Medicine Mann, Shadows Of Light, Question The Chaos) met guitarist Jason Cotter after moving to Nashville in 1998. The two shared a love for songwriting & darker melodies. Michael went on to successfully front several local bands while Jason continued writing on his own. The two reconnected in fall of 2013 & began writing & performing acoustically as a duo.
Soon after came long time friend & bass player Craig Alspaugh (Shadows Of Light, Forgotten Fable, Question The Chaos). The band performed a few gigs with Charlie Phan on drums until Vincent Ruzzo stepped in on drums & recorded the band's debut cd. In 2015, accomplished drummer Jim Phipps (Every Mother's Nightmare, Bush Hawg) joined up & became a driving force in the band.
In December 2014, the band's song "Quitting Time" hit the airwaves, debuting on Nashville rock station 102.9 The Buzz, with great response. On June 14, 2015 the song was selected by the radio station as the "Buzz Cut Of The Week" and was aired in rotation for the week, along side some of the band's influences. The highly anticipated full length release will come to life on December 1, 2015.
Combining vocal harmonies with dynamic chord progressions and great songs, Black Sky Tribe is a must see live experience.
