Notes

Once in a while a talent comes along whose music is ageless and who instantly turns heads....
country singer songwriter Lance Friend is one of these artists. Lance has been in the music
industry for many years and delivers his own honest, intelligent and unique style of
Australian country music.

He has been heard on country radio since 2004 with songs including “Just met an angel,
Don’t ring this ringer” and “Longreach sky” achieving great success on radio charts
throughout Australia. His first band “Friends In No Places” toured around Australia playing
various Country Music Festivals, Shows and Rodeos.

After four and half years in the making, March 2012 saw Lance release his solo album
titled "The Album" which is receiving much acclaim. Writing ageless songs about the land, his passions and observations Lance is an innovative singer/songwriter and performer with a swag of stories and a guitar style unique to himself.

FRIENDS ALONG COUNTRY ROADS
Edith Rutherford, (3/2012)

While his latest song Galiwin'ku climbs the Australian country music
charts, Gympie’s Lance Friend latest release, The Album, is tipped to top the
charts in country Queensland. With the long awaited album set for release
this week Lance has chosen to share the music with his friends first and he
has many along the country roads of Queensland. Lance and his first band
got the gig that launched his career at Gin Gin Show nearly ten years ago.
Since then he has toured Australia, playing country music festivals from
Tamworth to the Northern Territory and plenty of pubs in between, and the
odd B & S ball along the way.

He’s full of Aussie pride, “I’ve been around the world and places in
between, seen the seven wonders, I don’t know what they mean. But when I
drive across this country, we go hand in hand,” says Lance quoting a single
he wrote on the road, “Cause there’s nothing like Australia, the great
southern land.”

Lance has been around for a while, his music heard on KixFm and ABC
Wide Bay radio stations, and now featuring tracks off The Album from this
month on Radio 88FM Childers. “It’s not about being a chart topper for me,”
says Lance, “My music is my journey through life, and the lyrics come from
my heart. The first single on the new album, Galiwin'ku, was overwhelming
to write. We shot the video for the track at Galiwin'ku, in the north east tip of
Arnhem Land, with the people who inspire the album.

“This song is so special, to write and record, and my friends at Galiwin'ku
were all part of it, the inspiration and it’s their pride “I want people to hear
when they listen to this single. “My music tells my story, Fast Talking
Cowboy is another. I was driving down the Burnett and picked up a
hitchhiker, by the time I dropped him at the South Burnett another song was
born, by the time I got to Nanango the lyrics were done, and that is the story
of the Fast Talking Cowboy.

With tracks like The Condamine, Lost My Way, I Like Girls, Girls, Girls
this new release The Album is sure to be a winner, although as always Lance
prefers live performance where he can feel the audience. He has been known
to stop along the road, strum on his guitar or his ukulele to relax, and draw a
crowd without even trying. His music has a depth and his voice a texture that
draws his genre not western but country popular with young and old.

Having released his single ‘Once a Month Weekend’ along with a well-produced film clip Lance has achieved his first No1 song on the charts. This song and film clip can be seen and heard on many country radio stations as well as on YouTube at www.youtube.com/lancefriendvideo or on his website www.lancefriend.com

His latest single release 'Sit with Me Tonight (1951)'
“Let me share a secret, it kinda goes like this. Life don’t last forever, It’s just the way it is”.

The opening lines to this beautiful ballad, reminiscent of a wonderful life shared together. Lance found out his father had three months to live, bringing his world crashing down around him as he adored the life and partnership his parents had. Written from his father’s point of view to his mother, it was the late, great Peter Harvey who encouraged Lance to play it to his dad before he died of cancer and insisted 1951 should be part of the title.
Another great Co-write with Brad MacLean and a superb production from Brendan Radford. Off Lance’s album titled “The Album”, this song is destined to touch hearts and be a favourite among Australian country audiences.
