Description
A catchy journey through whimsical tunes and existentially poignant lyrics.
Notes
Kyle Sinclair got his start as a piano teacher on YouTube. There he taught his viewers how to play popular songs, and he amassed a following of over 10,000 subscribers and more than 6 million views. Frequently praised as "the best teacher on YouTube," Kyle has been secretly composing his own, original music on the side.
His debut album, "Footprints in the Sidewalk," is a catchy, piano-centric concoction that was conceived, written, recorded, edited, and produced entirely by Kyle himself with consumer-level equipment. This quaintness adds to its charm as he presents his professional sound against an industry of mass-produced, computer-generated music. It is pop-rock, but it is difficult to really classify his music -- it's reminiscent of Ben Folds' piano prowess with a splash of The Postal Service's electronic synths, and poignant, insightful lyrics to round it all out. The style gracefully shifts between tracks, taking the listener on a journey through whimsical melodies, soaring strings and addictive beats, down to therapeutic instrumentals and existentially biting lyrics. Listening to this music, it's easy to find yourself bobbing your head with the rhythm or humming a chorus in the shower. Kyle's mission is to create music that musicians would want to hear, and to inspire others to become musicians as well.
"Footprints in the Sidewalk" has a song for everyone -- "Christie's Song" and "Wordplay" offer lighthearted fun while "London" offers a more intense approach. "Love Song for the Air" and his ode to long-distance lovers, "A Hollywood Romance" sweetly serenade the smitten as "The Minutes Past" follows a plagued mind through the depths of jealousy and despair. His rendition of Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah" adds a completely new dimension to the familiar song, and his impeccable focus on instrumentation throughout allows for new discoveries every time you play a song.
So give Kyle Sinclair a listen -- "Footprints in the Sidewalk" is a worthwhile journey. Rumor has it there is also a digital booklet available for download on Kyle's website...
