Notes
Kyle is a worship leader from London, Ontario, Canada who has been playing and singing, both secular and religious music, for more than 20 years. Sometime early in 2013, a call to write original music came through loud and clear and "Long Road Home" began taking shape...it was mostly motivated by finding out that we were to be the opening act for Matt Maher!!
The 5 song EP is not so much eclectic as it is diverse in style. Kyle's roots are Irish and Canadian Maritime, but grew up in Southwestern Ontario listening to great local rock and country artists. All of these influences can be heard cleary on the album:
"Good" is good old fashioned, lively East coast music at it's best. It comes with a set of uplifting lyrics thanking God for the many blessings He has poured out upon us, and a surprise ending :)
"Your Spirit" has more of an acoustic rock groove to it and calls upon God's Spirit to be with us everyday. It recognizes our dependancy upon God at all times, and that we can only do great things together with Him.
"Bring Me Through" is a melodic, gentle song that looks back on the simplicity and innocence of youth and how much life changes as we grow older. Ultimately it expresses a cry for help in difficult times and a trust in the One who is with us before, during and after our toughest moments.
"Find The Way" was written in a short time one evening as a groovy, light acoustic tune. It was later during a jam session with my bass player and drummer that I asked how we could add some punch to the bridge that it morphed into something more visceral. I think this is my favourite song on the album, mostly because it expresses something that I pray constantly: "Help Me, Lord"
"Coming Home" is something totally different than the other tunes on the EP! It's more of a catchy, fun Country tune that creates visions of walking with Jesus along a crowded road and listening for His voice to follow Him home.
The album has a recurring theme of journeying with Christ, hence the name, "Long Road Home". It refers not only to the challenges faced along this path that we are all taking, but also the desire in our hearts to be with God and to be at peace. It's not an easy road but one that every single one of us walk; and each has their own unique way but all being called by the same loving God. "My sheep hear my my voice, and I know them, and they follow me".
