Lee Negin Creates Neo-Psychedelic, New-World Music

Multi-genre composer combines electronics and
acoustic-electric instruments on new CD


Coining a whole new meaning to the term 'world music,' the composer and multi-instrumentalist applies a lifetime of musical inventiveness in developing this 13-track album.

"My background is in music, all music," Negin states. "Electronic, rock, psychedelic, jazz, funk, pop, ethnic, world, classical and more. I don't differentiate between genres and the sonic landscapes on 'Hungry Ghosts' reflect that approach," Negin adds.

Playing the tracks will transport listeners both melodically and psychologically into another time and another place. There is a strong bond with traditional electronica in each of the songs yet all of them also feature a multitude of other musical influences. "I am pleased when listeners tell me they can feel my love for music by James Brown, Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, synth-pop bands, and lots of rhythmic music from the West and East, even while dancing or even approaching a trance-like state with my songs," Negin says.

Technical credits for the album are impeccable. While the basic tracks were recorded in the artist's home studio in Seoul, Korea, Negin points out that the "vocals, acoustic drums, electric and acoustic guitars, trumpet and additional keyboards, processing and mixing were done at The Chairworks in the UK. The Chairworks is a world-class studio and one of England's preeminent facilities," Negin adds.

Serving as mixing engineer was Simon Humphrey (Jeff Beck, The Clash, XTC, David Byrne, Hans Zimmer, Culture Club). "I am happy to say that Simon and I have become dear friends, and we plan on working together again soon," Negin notes. The album was mastered in London by Jon Astley (Eric Clapton, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, ABBA, Teenage Fan Club, David Bowie).

While the majority of the tracks are instrumental and often flow seamlessly from poetic and even gothic interludes to full-blast dance floor shakers, there are several instances of vocals from Negin and a variety of sampled sources and in-studio guests. "I was lucky to work with the excellent British female vocalist, Sulene Fleming," says Negin, "a great singer and songwriter who added her vocal talents to 3 of my songs on the album."
