Notes
On one overcast September afternoon in 2004, I took my collie, Zack, to the nearby park for our usual walk. As we walked, I became mesmerized by the sky above us. I don't usually take a camera with me, but on this occasion I did, & I began taking pictures of the fascinating, rapidly shifting cloud formations. I was deeply moved by a sense of the quiet, austere power lying behind the natural world. As I sat at my keyboard later that day and looked out the window in front of me, reflecting on that scene of breathtaking natural beauty, I hit the record button, let my mind and fingers drift where they would, and an hour or so later, "Drift" was born. No editing, no retakes, no studio tricks, just whatever I could come up with in the moment with what I had in front of me & inside of me.
At the time CNET's website, download.com, allowed musicians to share their music with the world there (they don't do that anymore, btw). A few days after I'd uploaded the album & one of my photos from the experience, I learned that their staff had selected "Drift" as an Editors' Choice in the New Age category. How exciting! And as the months went by, thousands and thousands of folks heard the music on download.com, but after a few years, CNET let the music side of their website go away. Since then, I've shared the music with friends & family, mainly through my Facebook & myspace pages. In fact, I hope you'll friend at either one of those sites. Just search for me, Kirk Kadish.
But now it's time to get the music back out to the world at large, so here we are! I'm very happy to let some of my favorite people in the music business, CD Baby, help me get this album out to a wider audience. I hope you really enjoy hearing the music! As much as I enjoyed making it!!
