Notes
If you ask Daniel Ingram how the band Looksy came up with its name, he’ll tell you about hearing “Let’s have a look-see” in an old John Wayne movie.
However, if you ask Kyle Posten, he’ll tell a different story about how he came up with the name.
While the argument over the origin of the name continues, one thing the Tuscaloosa-based band members can agree on: They’re excited for the release of the first full-length Looksy album, due out later this summer.
Looksy formed around four natives of Jasper: Singer-songwriter-guitarists Ingram and Rob Keating, bass player Posten and drummer John Laing. The quartet bonded at Keating’s old house on 15th Street — fondly referred to as the Taco Bell House for its proximity to the 24-hour fast-food joint — where local musicians frequently met to jam. It was there Looksy grew, as each honed skills, while learning to play as a rock ‘n’ roll unit.
Looksy strives to sound like music the band members enjoy, such as Ingram’s favorite Dr. Dog, one of the group’s biggest influences. Other favorites listed on the band’s Reverbnation site include the Black Keys, All Get Out, the White Stripes and the Alabama Shakes.
“It’s all about feeling good, so we make the kind of music that we like to hear,” Ingram said. “This album will be the best thing that we have ever done.”
Over the past few years, Looksy has performed in Tuscaloosa at Green Bar, Egan’s, Druid City Brewing Company, the Bama Theatre and Oz Music, and in Birmingham at The Nick, Bottletree Cafe, Blackmarket Bar & Grill and its Secret Stages Festival. The group has released two EPs, “Bits and Pieces” in June 2012 and “Deeper Into the Woods” in July 2013. However, the full-length album will be unlike anything it’s done so far.
“This album is another level of our music career,” Keating said. “It’s a culmination of everything that we have done for the past two years, and we’re super stoked about it.”
