Notes
Katya shows the versatility, expressive range and passion of the viola - despite its sometimes misinformed reputation for being a dull instrument. To help reveal this astounding range, she picked talented friends as accompanists. Award winning Russian Pianist Pavel Timofejevsky plays as a soloist in London and abroad. He appears on the English Romantic York Bowen (1884-1961) phantasy, Argentine Astor Piazzolla’s (1921-1992) fiery Tango and the ballet scenes by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953). Katya met Polish Violist Paulina Mazurkiewicz at Guildhall, who is now the principal violist at Shen Yun Performing Arts Orchestra. She plays with Katya in the baroque contrapuntal Inventions by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Another fellow student is Azerbaijani violinist Nigar Mirzayeva. She accompanies Katya on the Madrigals that are given a Czech take on English songs by Bohuslav Martinů (1890-1959). Katya plays solo on the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki’s (1933-) dramatic Cadenza.
