Description

Mixing rhumba, ska, reggae, and gypsy stylings while maintaining a cohesive and distinct sound, Muzon is the debut EP from Karikatura, a new band from NYC with a lot of stories, bringing the party wherever they go with energy and rhythm.

Notes

Karikatura is a band out of Brooklyn, NY seeking to combine the flavors of the worlds music while still preserving the art of songwriting and storytelling. Having played numerous venues around NYC and NJ, they've just recorded their first EP titled Muzon. The future brings more traveling, more inspiration and music as they embark on their first trip outside of NYC and outside of the U.S. . For a more complete history see below...

The journey of Karikatura starts in 2008 when Soviet-born Dima Kay, having grown frustrated with and tired of his adopted home of NYC, decided to embark upon some long-term travels to try to soak up and connect with the cultures he only got to sample back home.

For the next year he would sleep on floors, couches and straw mats, all the while living, learning and of course playing music and writing songs. From crowded apartment sessions to late night wine soaked serenades to gypsy jams by the ocean he made his way across Europe into Asia, finally stopping in India.

Re-awoken by her chaotic beauty Dima decided he would no longer travel alone and would form a band that would embody the stories he'd gathered, the flavors he'd tasted and the rhythms of the world...and there would be horns. Lot's of horns. Living in a tiny room in Chennai, India where the power would go out at random times and sneaking into the studio from midnight to 6am, Dima and his friends laid down the demos that would become the soundtrack.

Back in NYC he pulled in some old friends by way of ska-scene staple and Long Island native Chris Malone on the trombone and his old band-mate from the metal days, Sergey Deych, from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, on bass. Together, they started sculpting grooves and hornlines around the Indian demos. Along the way they picked up NJ born and multi-talented singer/MC Ryan Acquaotta, Peruvian born drummer Jorge Black and California's own horn-juggling maestro Jessie Bunting on sax and clarinet.

Thus Karikatura was born. The name means caricature in many languages as the music, which also tries to speak in many tongues, takes the most prominent characteristics and blends them into a barrage of beautiful melody, percussion, rhythmic guitars and roaring horns.

We are Karikatura, 6 souls combined to tell you a story and make you dance.
