Description

A diverse collection of alternative soundscapes as in Miles Davis meets Black Sabboth

Notes

Kam and the Matrix is a duo from New York City who just released their first full length album. The power duo is comprised of Kam on keyboard and vocals along side Matrix on drums, percussion and backup vocals. Their self-titled debut album has a wide spectrum of musical flavors; from the frantic swing of Calamity Blues, to the melodic sensibilities of Rainy Day and Snake In My Head. The group's dynamic soundscape portrays a theatrical motif throughout the album, yet delivers enough diversity to have a taste for every listener. Kam, originally from Pennsylvania, moved to New York City to pursue a career in music performance and audio engineering, which has led to sound technician gigs at two iconic NYC venues. Completing the power duo is Matrix. Born and raised in New York City, he took to the drums as a kid, later playing in a myriad of local bands and venues. While working as a drum tech at a Midtown Manhattan rehearsal studio, he met Kam. The two instantly bonded over their eccentric tastes in music. After a short stint as the rhythm section in another local band, they decided to go rogue and collaborate on a project in which they could both satisfy their musical influences. Kam, having had an interest with organs over the years, switched from bass to keyboard to facilitate the songwriting process. Over the two years of writing and recording at Kam's studio, they produced a repertoire of music they believe in. The songs are both experimental and edgy, while maintaining an organic feel with a curious familiarity. Their larger-than-life approach to the project is best displayed in their live performance. Between Kam's sonic innovations and The Matrix's dedication to his job, you will not find a more thunderous punch with such raw emotion from any other duo than Kam and the Matrix.
