Growing things is tough.
First the things that are mine, as the gardener, to grow
to tend to and fuss over and forget about
in the tiny plot I’ve been given.
And then the things growing in me, sown by a greater gardener
with plots and plans too big and perfect for these beginner hands.
Truth be told it’s tough growing things of any kind
It’s an oft-barren business: distractible, discourageable,
simultaneously dream-filled and desolate,
fertile and futile.
But then, sometimes,
with water and waiting,
sunlight and insight,
and the business of remembering not to let things die,
these little bits of green sneak in,
sprouting life and promise and wholeness,
making it all worthwhile again.
Here are four little bits of green from my garden;
a tiny crop meant to be shared.
First the things that are mine, as the gardener, to grow
