Description
Slickness to the point of sterility is all-too often the norm in music coming from the L.A. area. If it's not perfect you won't hear it. And you'll also miss hearing the human element of guys going for it with a result that is refreshingly unique.
Notes
The Other Side is dedicated in loving memory to my Father Jackson Coates (1917-2003) and includes some of my latest songs that he enjoyed. The picture on the cover was taken by him in the 1940's. I love that area of coastline between Big Sur and Monterey and I hope you think this music goes with such an all inspiring landscape.
The music was recorded live in Gary's studio (direct to Pro Tools/ no tape) with some of my best friends who just happen to be incredible musicians. The idea was to play it like we were playing for an audience and then move on to record the next song. Later, after many months of recording, hence the name Digital Doggs as we had come to be known, we found ourselves with a stack of CD's worth of music. After hours of listening, I finally came up with these particular songs as my favorites. Many thanks to all the musicians and especially the Digital Doggs- Gary Denton, Sam Riney, Bill Urmson, and Bill Lanphier, for making this music a reality.
