Description
Through inspired improvisations, Horn and his friends created an emotionally potent and stylistically diverse album that colorfully emerged strong, earthy rhythms with cultural influences from South America, Africa, India, Tibet and the U.S.A.
Notes
For Paul Horn and Nexus, recorded in 1975, flutist Paul Horn joined forces with Nexus, a touring group of percussionists and musical instrument collectors who hailed from Toronto, Canada. For Alturo Do Sol (Altitude of the Sun), recorded in 1976 and produced by Teo Macero (of Miles Davis fame), Horn introduced to American listeners the compositions, arrangements and performances of Egberto Gismonti, a brilliant guitarist/pianist from Rio de Janeiro who later went on the record several solo albums of his own for the ECM label. Both of these LP's, now combined on a single CD, have withstood the test of time, Both are as fresh an vital today as when they were originally recorded. Both are rooted in exciting multi-cultural rhythms. Both feature exceptional musicianship. Both transcend the musical biases and limitations of industrialized Western civilization. And both bring home to the listener, a thrilling a deeply moving experience of diverse cultures joyfully united in shared humanity through the celebratory powers of music.
