Description
Classical Solo Piano Improvisation
Notes
Christoph Braun – piano improvisations
Christoph Braun grew up near Zurich, not far from his present home in Kilchberg.
He started playing the piano at the age of five and studied music in Winterthur and Zurich, mainly with Margrit Rederer. He wrote his first compositions as a child and has since built up an extensive oeuvre of piano, chamber, ballet and film music. He has so far published three CDs with improvisations.
About my improvisations
I would call my art “prepared improvisations”. When I prepare for a concert, I reflect on different themes, motifs, harmonies, melodies and characters as well as the order of the pieces. What happens next, however, is purely extemporaneous, entirely spontaneous and cannot be repeated.
Among my favourite composers are Liszt, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Ravel, Prokofiev, Holst, Mahler, Ginastera. So, brace yourself for a whole lot of romance, drama and pianism.
I try to arouse emotions – within myself and in my audience. My aim is to evoke internal images, stories and films within my listeners' minds. I only give my pieces very general or no titles so as not to restrain or direct my audience’s imagination when listening to my music.
I am always pleased to hear what people in my audiences experience when they listen to my music, and I am particularly pleased if their experience differs completely from my own internal images.
