Description

A mix of smooth jazz, bass-driven soulful tracks fused with a little folksy guitar. Christian worship, love and life songs.

Notes

Omar K. Mills has done it again.

After the successful release of "Elyon", Omar went back to work in the studio and began crafting the songs for "In His Image". He had no idea the journey that the Lord was about to take him on.

"It took 8 years to tell this story," Mills said when asked why it took so long for the sophomore project to launch. Mills sites that he had to be "formed in the Lord's image" first - or at least begin the process, before he could release a CD with that title.

"I did the exact opposite with Elyon," Mills explains. "With Elyon, most of the tracks were either love songs or worship songs. The songs that talked about going through trials were really foreshadows of the things that the Lord was about to take me through. I found it odd at first - that I would sing about something before I had actually lived it. But at the time, I actually thought I had gone through most (if not all) of what I was singing about. Little did I know. Now, with this album, everything you hear me sing about is from experience."

For his last project Mills had the production services of super producer Ricky Payton Jr. This time, Mills brought in Detrick L. Edwards to handle the production duties.

"Rick taught me how to write music and I cherish those sessions we had when we made Elyon together. Detrick and I met when we ended up working together at a company that, oddly enough, has now gone bankrupt. I think the company was there so that he and I could meet and make this album. Things just fell into place and Detrick simply picked up where Rick left off. Both guys are top producers and I would gladly work with either of them again".

Several tracks are also produced by Mills himself.

"I took the plunge," Mills explained when I asked him about this. "I uploaded a video on YouTube for "Consistently" - a song that was initially a "scratch track", and it got featured on YouTube's home page. That gave me confidence that I could do some of my own production".

On the track "Let Me Pray" Mills is joined by internet celebrity Ysabella Brave (http://www.youtube.com/ysabellabrave).

"She is a joy to work with and truly has a gift. She is a woman of God, without question. I look forward to actually meeting her in person at some point. We literally did this across country - never stepping foot in the studio at the same time".

Mills described his first album experience as eerie because a man he barely knew put up the finances need to make the project go. This time it seems that same mojo is working.

The album is only available through digital distribution. I asked Mills about this.

"Most people are listening to music in iPods nowadays. Doing it this way helps me keep the costs down. I still have several hundred copies of 'Elyon' on cassette sitting in my basement. Don't want a repeat of that and it appears that iTunes and Napster aren't going anywhere anytime soon".

That said, we recommend downloading the whole album. You won't regret it.
