Notes
I’m finding it very difficult to write a description for Smiley's Far Out Railroad.....
It's a concept Album That much is clear to me,since I try to create stories set to music instead of a collection of individual tracks...But the 'plot is very abstract and the leitmotif are based on word/thought/images and atmospheres. yet i still try to keep elements of rock music/modern orchestral and music concrete etc...
Using The Surrealist methods of automatic writing, Dada absurd humor, sound collage, cut and paste, and improvisation, a loose, nebulous theme seemed to emerge of it's own accord. What the theme is I'm not completely sure of, but it is loosely related to some recurring images: Transportation, movement from one place to another/ one atmosphere to another, Trains, boats train-yards,docks, raincoats, furniture with human characteristics, puppets, the principle of uncertainty, paradox, alternate realities, mimes, hobos, dogs, goats...
I could probably come up with some pseudo-intellectual nonsense, and pompous psycho-social meaning, but why?
I've always been influenced by comedy albums, like Monty Python, Cheech and Chong, Sound effects albums, sketch comedy, and radio plays, so I sort of approach making albums and songs in this way....how can i make a song a more interesting more like a scene? and how weird or to what new way can i give depth?
So this is basically what this album is as much as i can describe it...Realistically, I hope that you enjoy it, and find it entertaining...Maybe you can tell me what the plot is
Enjoy!
