Notes

Rob Tobias & Friends CD, "Bagel Roots & Water Dogs" was released in 1998.

The name comes from some of the song titles but also describes the rootsy acoustic folk pop and hints at Tobias' Jewish roots.

Tobias' first CD, "Constant Rain" was released in 1994 and was also a combination of swing blues and folk rock with a bit of gospel flavor.

Tobias plays keyboard, acoustic guitar, harmonica, and sings. The group also includes bass, drums, mandolin/guitar, fiddle, and backup vocals.

The band's live set contains mostly original songs but they do mix in tunes by some influences including Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Bob Marley, The Beatles, and Taj Mahal.

Based in Eugene, Oregon the band has played for large crowds at the Seattle Folklife Festival and Tobias recently traveled to Long Island, New York to perform at a conference featuring some of the biggest names in Jewish music.

The songs on Rob Tobias and Friends new CD, Sparks, follow the Jewish holiday cycle and will be released in November 2000.

Rob Tobias is a story telling songwriter, blending many styles of music to create an accessible sound that appeals to all ages.

Whether performing with a group, solo, or as an arts educator, Rob projects enthusiasm, energy and spirit.

Tobias writes songs from personal experiences and observations. The lyrics reflect a philosophy based on spirit, humor, and the creative process.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Tobias moved to Oregon in 1978 and has been involved in music there since 1982.

Tobias' CD, Bagel Roots &Water Dogs is a collection of songs revealing his Jewish roots, ecological awareness, and upbeat hopeful nature.

The songs include, "Salmon Boy", a folk tale of transformation and appreciation, "Walk The Bagel", country/swing reveling in bagel virtues, "Wandering Dog" a cartoon canine's misadventures, and "Water" an ode to an element.

The recording is receiving radio play at stations across the country and "Wandering Dog" is included on a recent Acoustic Sampler CD distributed to radio by Oasis CD.
